Peter Gabriel To Perform A Live On Letterman Webcast Nov. 9 With A 46-Piece Orchestra

From his days with Genesis to his solo releases, soundtracks, digital-music explorations, and his work supporting world music through the WOMAD festival and Real World record label, Peter Gabriel has led one of the most exciting, diverse, and illustrious careers in modern popular music.
And so it’s an incredible treat to announce that GRAMMY-winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Gabriel will be performing an exclusive Live on Letterman webcast on Nov. 9, live from New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater.
And this won’t be your everyday online concert: Gabriel will appear on stage with a massive, live 46-piece orchestra, performing new arrangements of some of his best-known songs from through his career. It’s a fantastic, fresh approach to his catalog, and you won’t want to miss it. Presented by Citibank, the concert will kick off Wed., Nov. 9 at 9pm Eastern (6pm Pacific), and you can watch it right here (or on CBS.com).
Gabriel has long taken new and innovative approaches to his recordings. Recently he formed his New Blood Orchestra to perform new arrangements of familiar songs from his back catalog. There are no guitars or drums; instead, the songs find new life with large, lush arrangements.
Check out the video below of Gabriel’s classic song “Red Rain” from the new CD and DVD release New Blood – Live from London.
The New Blood setlist ranged from classic Gabriel material (favorites like “In Your Eyes,” “Solsbury Hill” and “Biko”) to cover tunes he explored on his Scratch My Back album the year prior (including titles like Paul Simon’s “The Boy In The Bubble” and Lou Reed’s “The Power Of The Heart”).
This new approach is unusual for a rock musician, but for Gabriel–a man who’s reinvented himself several times over, who’s always a few steps ahead of the rest of us, and who never seems content to sit still creatively–it makes perfect sense.

I saw PG and the New Blood Orchestra in Camden, NJ, back in June and would love to see another performance. There were only a couple of stops left on the tour at that point and PG & Co. debuted the orchestral version of “Secret World,” which is amazing…and it’s disappointing that it’s not on any of the “New Blood” CD releases. But I would love to hear that version of “Secret World” played live again. And kudos to New Blood conductor Ben Foster (of Doctor Who/Torchwood fame)…a fantastic conductor.

If I were there and Peter Gabriel sung “The Book of Love” – I would be the happiest girl in the world. My first dance at my wedding (2 years ago on 10/25/09) was to this song. I chose it because it reminds me SO much of my grandparents love. My grandfather passed away and couldn’t be at our wedding and he and my grandma were married for just under 62 years (he passed away a few days before their anniversary) and I dedicated that song to my grandma, Minnie, who thank goodness, was able to attend.

Having a great day! I won tickets to see Peter Gabriel’s performance at The Ed Sullivan Theatre, on Wehm radio this a.m.(thanks To EHM’s Anthony). I’m truly grateful!!!!
My husband and I saw him PG & the New Blood Orchestra in July @ Camden NJ show, and it was intense, truly inspiring. The music produced an energy that can not be described in words, let’s just say it brings you to the mountain top.
God bless Peter Gabriel for sharing his talents to the world while bringing his fans the opportunity to discover the talents of other gifted musicians through WOMAD & the collaboration of many who make up the New Blood Orchestra.
I wish you all luck in hopes of winning tickets, if not, watch the web cast and turn the volume up and close your eyes. For a moment u may feel like your there in the crowd. Peace & love and again, many thanks to EHM radio, 92.9/96.9 east Hampton NY
